Congratulations to all my teammates on a great year. For those not playing fall ball get some rest because we are in it to win it next year.

I think people should realize too that if you choose the first option (At someone's house) then you should also be offering up your house when the time comes for the party Smile

Mens Spring season ends only way it could: a rainout

GamesHoping for a reprieve from the wet weather Mother Nature has brought to the Just a Bit Outside Softball Club's season, the Mens B3 team took to the field Friday night hoping to get the final two games of their season in. But after finishing the first game, the rains came and after 1 inning into the second game, the season ended with one more game not played due to the rain.

In the first game, the team put up a valiant effort against a very good Misfits team, but ended up on the wrong end of a 15 - 5 score. The team, as it had done during its' three previous wins, came out of the gate fast, scoring 3 runs in the top of the first to take the very early 3 - 0 lead. Ryan Phelps-Franco led off the game with a single, but was erased on Frank Carr's fielders choice. But consecutive singles by pitcher Chris Furman and AJ Haynes scored Carr. After a walk by Danny Benitez, a single by Ken Shaw scored Furman, and a bases-loaded walk by Art Wise scored Haynes.

But with 2 runs in the bottom of the first, and 3 more runs in the bottom of the second, the Misfits were out to a 5-3 lead. After a 5 run third inning, the Misfits never looked back, also adding one run in each the fourth and fifth innings and a final three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

JABO added 2 runs in the top of the 5th on a 2 out, 2-run double by Furman, but that was as close as they would get on the night.

Defensively, despite the sloppy playing conditions due to the rain, the team played well in the field, making many of the plays they needed to make. The Misfits took advantage of Furman's ineffectiveness on the mound to come up with a bunch of timely hits. Furman did manage to strike out a batter in the game.

The team did make an attempt to start the second game of the double header against the Poweralleys, completing one inning where the Poweralleys lead 4 - 2. But after scoring a run in the top of the second, field conditions worsened to the point where it became unsafe, and the game was called. Both teams agreed that, after having their game rescheduled three times already, enough was enough and the game just wouldn't be played.

The mens team, overall, had an up and down season, but the late season surge by the team gives them promise for both the upcoming fall season and next year's spring season. The team's next game will be known in a couple of weeks when the Fall 2009 season schedule comes out.
