I think people should realize too that if you choose the first option (At someone's house) then you should also be offering up your house when the time comes for the party Smile

Mens team starts 2010 season with resounding win vs. Electricians
GamesThe Just a Bit Outside Mens softball team has never started off the Summer season well. Last year, they didn't pick up their first win until their 6th game of the season. In 2008, it took 4 games. During the inaugural season in 2007, it 12 games.

This season, it took only one.

Every starter on the team had at least one hit and scored one run as the team put up 15 runs in just 4 innings and defeated Electricians 15 - 3 in a mercy-shortened 4 1/2 inning game last Friday at Ridge Park.

The offensive explosion was led by a both a veteran and a rookie. New to the team Dan McKittrick blasted 2 triples and driving in 2 runs, while the old codger Art Wise was a home run away from the cycle (and he certainly let everyone know about it as well) and drove in 4 runs. 7 of the teams 18 hits were extra base hits as the team was able to capitalize on two huge innings; 6 runs in the first, and 7 more in the third. Two final runs in the fourth inning put the team at the 12-run mercy rule limit.

The defense, while shaky in the first inning, played composed and solid throughout the game. The team spent the first inning shaking off some of the defensive cob webs, as a couple miscues allowed the Electricians to score 3 runs in the first inning to take a short-lived 3-0 lead. However, behind the pitching of Danny Benitez, that's all of the runs the Electricians would plate for the game.

Benitez pitched 4 solid innings, striking out one before leaving the game. Reliever Chris Furman came in and added some excitement to the game, but a heads-up defensive play made all of the excitement a non-issue.

Furman gave up a leadoff single in the 5th, followed by a walk. With 2 on and nobody out, he was able to induce a fly ball out to Frank Carr in left-center field. Carr was able to then gun down the leadoff runner attempting to advance to third, where Matt Kawczak applied the tag to turn the 8-5 double play. The next batter popped out to right-center field, which ended the game.

The team's next game is on Friday, May 14 vs. Best Damn Sports Bar at Mullens Park in Albany. Game time is 7:30pm.

Mens 2010 season starts tonight... but probably not
GamesThe Just a Bit Outside Mens B3 softball season is scheduled to start tonight when it faces 4 Corners Pharmacy in a 6pm game at Bleeker Stadium. But in customary fashion, the weather report is calling for rain most of the day, putting the likelihood of playing their opening night game into question.

"Of course it's frustrating," says JABO Manager Chris Furman, "because not only do I have to plan for playing a game, I've got to be a meteorologist as well!"

"But," he says with a shrug of his shoulders and a calmness in his voice, "it is what it is. It's not like we've never had a game rained out before. We'll just plan as if we're playing and if we don't, then it's a night off to relax at home with the family."

Teams will be notified whether or not the game has been postponed by 4:30pm this afternoon. Players can check the rainout hotline this afternoon by calling (518) 458-8414 for information.
